I have really been struggling with finding time to do Kung Fu lately. It has been really hard adjusting my schedule from summer mode to school mode. On top of school and homework, I joined an after school thing too. I have been really tired and feel like I have no time to do things. I am enjoying high school so far, its just a little bit of an adjustment. I know that there is time in my day, I just need to take more advantage of it.
A little while ago at open training Sifu Brinker gave me these metal rings to practice with. I put them on my wrists, and they are like an added weight. They are really cool. They have the same benefits of using a weapon, except I can do hand forms with them. It amplifies things I had never seen before! They have been really fun to use.
One thing they amplified is that I am engaging my lower back when I do techniques, instead of my hips. I was kind of twisting my back strangely to get more power. So I have been working on not doing that. I've been practicing a specific part of Da Mu Hsing. I have been trying to disengage my back, and then engage my hips. It has been difficult and kind of frustrating. At one point I had found myself using my shoulders instead of my hips or my back. But I've kept practicing, and I think I am doing okay.
The other day I was doing Da Mu Hsing (without the rings), and when I got that specific section I have been working on, I was shocked. It felt really good!! I felt super powerful, like I had the whole Earth behind me. I just hope its actually good, and I'm not doing something stupid. It's a little weird though, because the rest of my form feels kind of bad now. But I'm just gonna keep practicing and see what happens.
